Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory Prayer Cannot Replace Jesus!"

I've been excited about Lord now for many years. And through those years I heard about many "revivals." Revival signs would for many of those years were posted on signs and marquee signs outside of local churches. You would both hear and see organized "all-night" prayer meetings; even "pray-in" meetings. But most of those meetings started at 7 or 8 PM and only lasted till 11:30 at night.

However, many people received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and some spoke in tongues. But what was found in many meetings is that they would pray for eveything and every dog in the land- in less than an hour!

Many were frustrated. Some tried to find out what these "revivals" were doing wrong. Some, read up on the great revivals of history: the Welsh Revival, The New Hebrides Revival, The Moravian Revival and so on. As people read, people noticed that in every revival, they seemed to start with a group of people who just "grabbed hold of God" and through prayer, brought about a pressumed revival into being.

Well, there were no "lone gunmen" MANY people saw this in action through those years. And even today, when you hear about "revival" most of the time you hear about an emphasis on "prayer. "We're just suppose to pray Heaven down," they say as they quote Scriptures like Isaiah 64:1, "Oh that thou wouldest rend the Heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at Thy presence."

Whoa!"

This is a Wrong Attitude

Well, because of this, many devoped a wrong attitude- an attitude many to this day share about "revival."

Some thought God was so put out with humans that He turned His back on people because people were generally ungodly. And that was then! Can you imagine nowadays? Anyway, people pictured God (and still do) as able to no longer abide dealing with mankind because people were so depraved and rotten. But one day, some thought, Hey! an intercessor would come along and say, "Oh God, have mercy on your people! Oh God, please turn around! Oh God! please pour out Your Spirit again!"............

And maybe a few were also thinking that God was up there saying, "Unpon a bunch of people like you? You've got to be kidding!"

So....the intercessor would do this interceding and saying things like, "Oh please, God" until God finally would say (what people were assuming similarly), "Well, if you won't leave Me alone, I'll have to do it."

People use to (and still do) think about God in the above fashion. THIS IS A WRONG NOTION AND ATTITUDE!

To think God is willing for the whole world to go to Hell- and the world would go to Hell- right? If it were not for these great intercessors who have so much love and compassion for the world. But again, this is wrong. You cannot ever out-love God!

But it's true! People think they have to grab the base of the altar and shake it until God comes out (speaking figuratively) and not let go until He pours out His blessing! What's that old saying (found all over the internet)? "Pray until something happens."

That's crazy! We aren't more concerned about people than God is! We don't have to get God prayed into compassion for people. We don't need to turn God around.

But...each of us need to admit that we've tried to do just that (I'm guilty-"If I just prayed harder!). We think maybe, "I don't know why God isn't doing this or that, but I'm going to grab (get hold of) hold of God through faith and not let go until He givesd me what I want (need)!"

NO WONDER WE END UP FRUSTRATED....WE CAN'T MAKE GOD DO ANYTHING!
